I bought a dash cam for my semi. Yup, like those Russian ones. Got it cheap too, plug-and-forget to boot, only 60 odd bucks! Bad drivers are a growing problem as the years go by, and I’ve decided to “protect” myself from fraud and driver incompetence. For me it’s a $5,000+ deductible on the line, loss of safety points and credibility, so you can understand why this is important, especially for owner/operators. Admittedly, I would also need 2 more cams to record rearward on both sides but that’s something not quite feasible right now.
I’ve prepared a sample video. However, I could not quite transfer the quality of the original video file, which is in AVI, to my video editor and then to YouTube. The original file plays a bit smoother and quality is a bit more sharp than what you will see here… Anyhow, it is more than adequate for any legal purpose.
That’s just one of many assholes truckers like me face in a single day. Luckily, another semi was merging into the right lane, prompting me to change lanes. Otherwise, that fucker in the Murano would have slammed his brakes in front of me to turn right. And yet, I would have been made responsible of the accident if I’d rear-ended him if not for a video proof of him cutting me off. That’s why cams are so important. Expect more and more semis to have them in the following years.
Remember that if a semi air horns you, it’s 99% sure that YOU have made a mistake (try to analyze your last move before giving the one finger salute), so watch yourself around us and be safe!
